Regional Development

This section endeavours to isolate research, analysis and best practices with respect to regional strategy development and execution.

Fostering Trading Area Economies. This 2021 report published by SEDA in partnership with the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy proposes a new context and scope for economic regions. Provincial governments typically rely on commuter shed and labor market distribution data to determine regional economic jurisdictions. This project highlights the sub‐economic zones known as ‘trading areas’ which abound throughout Saskatchewan and raises the viability of smaller scope ‘trading area economic zones’.

Case Studies in Economic Diversification: This report published in 2014 attempts to isolate features of communities and regions that have overcome challenges to their economies due to impacts such as loss of a major employer.
